HoldNorgeRent is an association that is working against pollution. Their overall goal is to engage volunteers for the cleanup of trash and hazardous waste in Norwegian nature and to prevent environment pollution.
The Norwegian initiative Kystlotteriet (The Coastal Lottery), which is a part of the organization Friends of the Earth Norway worked together with HoldNorgeRent to host a large scale cleanup action along the river Glomma, which runs into the Oslofjord and is a large source of marine litter.
Founded in 1914, Friends of the Earth Norway is Norway’s oldest environmental and nature protection organization. Friends of the Earth Norway is membership based and consists of over 20,000 members divided between approximately 100 local groups across the country, working to solve environmental issues both local and global.
418 school children and volunteers dedicated their time to help clean their local areas in need of help to celebrate World Ocean’s Day with these organizations. The results of the cleanup were great:
104 sacks of rubbish
6 small boats
8 car tires
At the end of the day over 3,000 pounds of just rubbish was collected - not including the 6 small boats that were found! The teams believe that by working together, we can have more successful cleanups such as this one and continue to make a difference for our oceans and environments everywhere!
