Ocean Beach Cleanup

In San Francisco on a beautiful Friday afternoon, 22 volunteers went down to Ocean Beach to help clean.

Ocean Beach is a long beach spanning the entire Sunset District of San Francisco from Cliff House south to Sloat Boulevard and can accumulate a lot of trash between the jagged rocks that line the shore.

After a long hour of cleaning, the 22 volunteers were able to collect 50 pounds of trash off the San Fran beach. Many of these pieces of trash were small plastics: a bold reminder of the importance of removing plastic from our beaches and oceans. Plastic is one of the only known man-made materials that never truly biodegrades. As it breaks down over time, it becomes smaller pieces known as microplastics that are extremely hard to clean up.

Thanks to everyone who showed up at this cleanup to help make a difference!
