Threats to Whales are on the Rise

More than 8-million tons of plastic make it into the ocean every year and countless other types of trash and marine debris are beginning to clutter the ocean. It has come to the point that it is dangerous to even just swim in the ocean as a whale.

69% of whale species have been recorded ingesting marine plastic and whales becoming entangled in things like ghost nets or abandoned fishing gear is a common occurrence that can result in bodily injury and even death. In addition, there are a host of other man-made threats to whales that include things such as:

  • Whaling for food
  • Climate change
  • Ship strikes
  • Toxic contamination
  • Oil and gas development
  • Habitat degradation

Because of threats like these, 5 of the 13 great whale species are listed as endangered and as pressures on these creatures continue to mount, it is going to be even more critical for governments, companies, and organizations to put more emphasis on whale conservation efforts. Healthy oceans need whales and Planet Earth needs healthy oceans to support life as we know it.

That is why every day at 4Ocean, we are doing what we can #4Whales to clean the ocean and coastlines of this plastic and trash before it ever makes it into whales' habitat. By purchasing a 4Ocean Limited Edition Whale Bracelet, you pull one pound of trash and help to spread the campaigning, conservation, and education of whales around the world!

I love the work you are doing. It seems that the solution must include regulations among nations such as banning certain kinds of plastic, education of people who throw debris out car windows, and cleaning rivers before they meet the ocean.

Future generations will really heap curses on our heads if we don’t eliminate (that means cutting out, not just reducing to "an acceptable minimum) all threats to whales and large sea mammals. I am delighted to be part of 4Ocean’s efforts to raise world awareness about the threats not only to the oceans in the abstract but also to whales and other denizens of the high seas.

Hi guys, this was my first time I decided to join a cause and make a donation. I beloved you are doing something great and I wish that you could organize something with schools and institution. Kids should know and understand how important are our oceans and how important is working to preserve them. You are great I wish I could do more to help

I have just compleated an EPQ (extended project qualification) on mankind’s reliance on plastic…. in which I have learned to much!
I am doing a skydive in June to raise money for your Organization!! So hopefully all my donations will massively help!
Thank you all so much for what you do❤️ Hope you guys get this message!! :)

Heartbreak in the Headlines: Florida’s Algae Blooms

Algal blooms are natural events that, for the most part, actually benefit ocean life. Algae is a type of plant that lives in both the ocean and freshwater, acting as a source of food and energy that powers entire food chains. But there are many different kinds of algae...and not all of them are beneficial. Discover what 4ocean is doing to address the harmful algal blooms affecting both of Florida's coasts.

How One Current Changed a Scuba Diver’s Life Forever

As we got closer to the ocean floor, we began to approach a reef; this reef was nothing short of epic. The colours were bright and everything appeared to be healthy with marine life flourishing... that was until the current changed. Within seconds, this heaving reef became surrounded with plastic and rubbish.
