Dolphins and porpoises delight us with their playful antics and warm our hearts with their friendly faces. Because they possess a high degree of intelligence and have a sociable nature, we see a lot of ourselves in these amazing creatures. However, dolphins and porpoises are dwindling in numbers and, in some cases, are on the brink of extinction. In fact, one out of every four species of dolphin and one of six species of porpoise are threatened with extinction.

The vaquita porpoise is a heartbreaking example of what can happen when we ignore our impact on the ocean. The situation shows us how quickly things can go bad when we’re not paying attention. There are as few as 30 of these animals alive in the world.
