Position Overview:

Is your suitcase still packed from your last out of office adventure? Being able to pack-up and go at a moments notice will be part of the job description. This isn’t your conventional field role, the right candidate will have the ability and desire to travel to developing countries regularly on assignments at weeks at a time. This is a unique opportunity to develop and customize revolutionary equipment that will change the future of the ocean and the world.

We’re looking for an experienced and well-traveled Field Engineer Manager to join the fight against ocean plastic pollution. As our FEM, you’ll travel to developing areas of the world that are severely impacted by ocean plastic pollution to research, design, customize, and optimize machinery that prevents, intercepts, and recovers ocean plastic. Out in the field you will be inspecting and evaluating specifications of the equipment to make them operational in the areas in which they will be deployed.

You’ll be responsible for overseeing the strategic development of 4ocean’s cleanup technology deployment. You’ll also be expected to build out your team and take full ownership of setting their strategy and objectives in each country.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability and desire to travel or accept short-term assignments in developing countries
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of field service engineer and associates
  • Coordinates and assigns work to employees
  • Proficient knowledge of technology applications that can be used to remove trash/debris from water
  • Oversee the day-to-day projects related to technology and engineering; working closely with engineer project managers
  • Ability to understand the environmental requirements from different countries’ governments and convert them into a technical or solution design
  • Works closely with Director of Operations Technology
  • Alert to opportunities for product or process improvements
  • Proactively communicates the need for fixes or changes in an effort to keep small problems from becoming big problems
  • Continually focuses on achieving positive, concrete results contributing to the success of the 4ocean movement and our mission of a plastic-free ocean
  • Emerging ability to drive hard conversations to conclusion both internally and externally, engaging others in active, open, and productive dialogue
  • Ability to modify and shift behavior as situations or objectives evolve
  • Oversee the preparation of plans, designs, calculations and cost estimates under the supervision of the Director of Operations
  • Oversee the preparation of standard contract documents, such as technical specifications, engineering reports, regulatory applications, and other technical documents
  • Time flexibility, self-reliance, the ability to work independently and safely, and strong and frequent communication are musts

  • Mandatory Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering program
  • 7-9 years of project and / or operational experience
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with AutoCAD or similar software
  • A strong appreciation for the environment and sustainability
  • P&L Management
  • Ability to Travel up to 15-20% domestically; 30-40% internationally
  • Bilingual / multilingual a plus
