Position Overview:

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for implementing mission focused, engaging, and seamless volunteer activities for 4ocean and our partners across the United States. This position works proactively, positively and collaboratively as a member of the 4ocean cleanups team to develop and maintain an active network of volunteers for a minimum of 10 events per month. This position will also oversee critical aspects of the 4ocean’s volunteer program, which includes volunteers for 4ocean beach and ocean cleanups, as well as cleanups that are organized by our partners across the U.S.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with the 4ocean cleanups team to identify and organize ocean cleanups and special events that achieve the company’s goals and reach our desired target audiences.
  • Manage event budgets and calendar of events.
  • Responsible for volunteer management, recruitment, event planning, execution, set-up and breakdown, and follow up.
  • Collaborate with numerous outside vendors including park rangers and management, 4ocean fleet operations, dive shops, environmental organizations, venue management, rental companies, catering companies and others.
  • Retain and cultivate existing volunteers and recruit new volunteers via social media, email, personal contacts and group presentations.
  • Maintain volunteer database.
  • Manage volunteer communications via social media, phone calls and emails
  • Manage volunteer schedules in coordination with 4ocean and other special event lead volunteers.
  • Oversee pre/post event volunteer work.
  • Attend event planning and de-briefing meetings as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate volunteer recognition events
  • Send out timely communications to all special events partners, program presenters and volunteers.
  • Assist in measuring the success of volunteer engagement and activities against 4ocean strategic business goals.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to connect with and articulate the 4ocean mission with constituents at all levels and from various backgrounds.
  • A team player who can successfully interact with a variety of people including staff, volunteers, executives, the public and 4ocean partners.
  • An ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities, meet deadlines and maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented and organized while maintaining both perspective and the big picture.
  • Creative and independent problem-solver who can get things done and work proactively to anticipate challenges and opportunities.
  • A go-getter who is cool under pressure, eager to help, positive and friendly.
  • Excellent communication and proofreading skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Previous event, volunteer coordination, campaign or organizational experience is required (internship experience considered).
  • Flexible availability to work based on cleanup event schedules, which may include nights and weekends.
