The Shocking Truth of What Is Lurking Under Florida Piers

Join us on a journey beneath the surface at Pompano Pier, Florida, for an annual underwater cleanup event hosted by Dixie Divers. Dixie Divers is a local dive shop native to Southern Florida. Watch as Alex Schulze, Co-founder and CEO of 4ocean, and Sky, one of our cleanup crew members, remove fishing lines and miscellaneous debris!
Our video begins at dawn, where a vibrant crowd gathers, eager to clean this pier. Alex provides insight into the preparations leading up to the dive, including gearing up on the sandy shores and the meticulous task of carrying heavy scuba tanks.
Despite the murky visibility of the water, spirits remain high, fueled by the beautiful morning ambiance and the mission ahead.
Equipped with Halcyon BCs and Garmin Descent MK2 dive watches, Alex and Sky dive in and realize they are in for a great day of cleaning. Alex and Sky encountered some extra dive buddies like nurse sharks, stingrays, and vast schools of fish! They collect fishing lines entangled around pylons, sinkers, weights, giant shark fishing hooks, and even an old-school Coca-Cola bottle!
Emerging from the dive, Alex and Sky evaluate their haul, which totals 40 to 50 pounds of debris. They then sort and categorize the collected trash, including lead sinkers and old fishing lines, reflecting a successful dive.
