Flowing Forward: How 4ocean and Local Heroes Rescued Blambangan’s Vital Irrigation Ditches
Dika, 4ocean Bali Content Correspondent
In Blambangan and Tembokrejo villages, irrigation ditches are the lifelines of lush rice fields. But after heavy rains on November 21, 2024, these essential waterways became clogged with over 1,300 pounds of plastic and non-plastic waste. Our 4ocean Java River Team faced a muddy challenge—not just to clear the ditches but to restore life to the land.

Led by Captain Aby Amanda Putra, the team dove into thick, hard mud and slippery ditches. They encountered everything from plastic bottles to hidden non-plastic debris that blocked water flow.
“The reduced water levels made it difficult to wash off the mud,” Aby recalls, “but we didn’t give up. Every step forward helped the community regain its water source.”

Over 1,350 pounds of waste removed:
Blambangan Ditch: 362.12 lbs
Tembokrejo Ditch: 1,027.12 lbs
Clearing these ditches means more than removing waste. It means restoring irrigation, reducing odors, and supporting local farmers who rely on these waters.
For Aby, this work is personal. “I’m lucky to be part of 4ocean Java,” he shares. “I’ve grown, and so has our community.” His passion underscores a vital message: everyone has a role in maintaining clean water and protecting nature.
