4ocean and HighScope School Students Team Up for a Cleaner Shoreline

Ucik, 4ocean Bali Content Correspondent

We joined forces with a group of young, enthusiastic environmentalists from HighScope School Denpasar to tackle the environmental significance of Berawa Beach and clean up its shoreline. Led by Captain Agus, our 4ocean Denpasar beach team welcomed eleven eager students who arrived ready to make a difference. Seeing their excitement reminded us how impactful our work is and gave us hope that the next generation is committed to keeping Bali’s beaches beautiful and trash-free.

As we spread out across the sand, the kids were eager to start. With gloves on and bags in hand, they carefully picked up plastic wrappers, bottles, and other litter scattered along the shoreline. Over the course of 1.5 hours, we managed to collect over 150 pounds of plastic waste from Berawa Beach. Each piece of trash removed was a step toward a cleaner, healthier environment, and the children’s enthusiasm made the task feel more meaningful.

While we worked, we also took the opportunity to talk with the students about the importance of keeping the beach clean and why plastic waste is so harmful to the ocean. Their excitement was contagious, and their questions showed a genuine curiosity about the impact of waste on marine life. It was clear that they understood the importance of their role in protecting the environment, and that sense of responsibility will likely stay with them.

One of our team members reflected, “Many people seem indifferent to the trash in this area, but seeing us and these students cleaning up may inspire others to take action.” By setting an example, we hope others will join us or, at the very least, choose not to litter.

Our goal isn’t just to clean beaches; it’s to inspire everyone who sees our efforts. Tourists and locals alike can play a part in protecting Bali’s beautiful coastline. By the end of the day, the kids were all smiles, feeling proud of their hard work. It was a memorable experience for all of us, a day that showed the power of community and education in protecting our environment.

As we packed up the collected waste, we were filled with a renewed sense of purpose. Berawa Beach was cleaner, and these students had gained hands-on experience in environmental stewardship. Hopefully, they left feeling empowered to spread the message and protect their natural surroundings..
